The Citadel's Order of the Tartan recognizes and celebrates those donors who have shown their loyalty and steadfast commitment to The Citadel by making an annual gift of any dollar amount for 25 consecutive years or more. Upon reaching this milestone, donors are inducted into the Order of the Tartan and receive a tartan sash. The Scottish tartan, woolen cloth woven in a distinctive pattern of plaid, has long served as a symbol of loyalty and association with a particular region, family, or clan. The Citadel has its own official tartan, which is registered in Edinburgh, Scotland.
